Merci. Grazie. Arigato. Gracias. Thank you! There are not enough words to express the gratitude I feel for Bev, Maika and Luke and the difference they have made in my life. Bev has said so many times: “you hate me now but you will love me later.” She knows what she is talking about.

I started The Bar Method in November. Even on Thanksgiving, my day started with an early morning workout. These people are really committed to their clients. A few weeks later, in late December, I set some fitness, body fat %, and health goals. Baseline measurements and photos were taken, and an initial Body Fat Test was done to document my starting point. But I needed something more tangible to keep me focused and motivated. Hanging in my closet was a little (size 4) red strapless dress I call my Tulip Dress. Even though I haven’t been able to fit into that dress for many years, I could never give it away. I always dreamed of someday wearing it again.

Bev and Maika thought this was a grand goal, except instead of the year I was planning to take to make it happen, they encouraged me to think in terms of months. Looking ahead on my calendar, I realized there was a Black Tie event coming up on May 1st. Just the perfect place for me to wear that dress.

Step by step, day by day, my endurance increased, and I got stronger and leaner. In late March or early April, I tried again to fit into that dress. I could finally get it zipped, but I couldn’t breath or move. More work followed. With Bev and Maika’s help, my workouts became even more intense as I improved my form and concentration. All of their positive reinforcement and focus on helping me achieve my goals helped me maintain my motivation.

With nicer weather, I added two or three rounds of golf to my weekly schedule. It’s a hilly mountain course, and thanks to my new level of strength and endurance, I now walk that course. That new strength and endurance, coupled with more overall flexibility has also translated into much improved golf. Not only is my dress size dropping, so is my handicap.

Yesterday was May 1st. That little red dress fits me better now than it did when I bought it so long ago. Maybe being age 63 isn’t so bad after all...what’s that saying, something about not getting older, just getting better? May 1st was also the date of our second Body Fat Test. I haven’t reached my 20% goal, but I’m well on my way. I started at 26.9% and have dropped to 23.6%. At this rate, I should reach my goal this summer.

The Bar Method attracts an amazing group of clients. Their collective energy and mutual support makes this adventure not only rewarding but fun. Thanks to all of you who have shared your stories, jokes, and laughter.
