When Bar Method opened a studio two doors down from my office, I thought “How convenient! Maybe this will force me to work out more!” I had no concept of how addicted I was about to become… I attended class on the first day they opened their studio. It felt like I was learning a foreign language. My body didn’t seem to comprehend any of the moves I was supposed to be doing.  I just didn’t understand how I was supposed to square my shoulders (and actually keep them there). It was quite daunting.

I started coming one day a week, thinking that, as I got “better”, I start coming every other day. Then, Bev and Maika told me that coming two days in a row would actually HELP with the soreness. I wondered if they were insane :) but decided if their bodies were evidence, I should probably listen to them. As I started coming more regularly, the moves began to make more sense. Bev always joked about how when I walked into their studio on week 1, she could tell I spent all day at my computer by the way I hunched my shoulders.  I started to pay attention to my posture more and strive to better it. And after a couple months, there it was! The beginning of muscle definition! I seemed to jiggle less…and feel tighter all over.

But one of the most rewarding things about Bar, is the people you will find there. From the beginning, Bev, Maika and Luke made it a point to know my name and actually ask about my life. They always make you feel that they are excited to see you and GENUINELY care about your well-being. I feel as if they have become a part of my life, which makes my time spent at the studio much more meaningful.

Also I never expected to have such a great time with the other people I met taking classes with me. It makes class a lot more fun when you can groan together about how hard curl was today or laugh about how your legs are shaking like a leaf. And there is nothing more heartening than Bev, Maika or another classmate, encouraging you through those last five pushups – or telling you what a great job you did in class. I have developed personal relationships with them, which is something I never would have expected.

I began looking forward to classes – instead of dreading them like other workouts. I could leave my office in a foul mood, and by the time I had finished class, that was totally gone. Bar was a sense of both physical challenge and emotional relief.  It became the bright part of me day.

As cheesy as it sounds, Bar has had a tremendous impact on me over these past nine months. I am so thankful that Bev, Maika and Luke decided to bring Bar Method to Seattle. My life, and tuck, would not be the same without them. :)
