| Theresa's Story: |
|
The Bar Method has given me something to look forward to. I have been struggling with clinical depression for 15 years. I have a hard time sticking with anything for any length of time. If someone would have told me 6 months ago I would be driving in to Redmond almost every morning to exercise, I would have seriously laughed. But now I do it, and I look forward to it. If I don't go to class, I miss it. I not only miss the workout, but I also miss the instructors, Luke and the weekday 8:15 am class. Bev and Maika are amazing. They are great teachers, motivators and role models. They make me feel worthy, special and capable.
The excellent team at the Bar Method and the welcoming environment that they create are even better than a personal trainer, and cheaper, too. The Bar Method is an awesome total body workout that also makes you feel like you can handle anything that the world is going to throw at you. It is always challenging and keeps you continually reaching for and accomplishing new goals.
I know I have the potential to be who I want to be and to have the body I want to have; The Bar Method has shown me this. I'm amazed at the differences in my body in this short period of time. Although I have only lost an inch here and there, I know I can do better. The Bar Method has shown me my own potential. I know this will take time, but I know now I can do it and I need to do it for me. I have not lost any weight on the scale, but I have noticed changes in my arms, legs, shoulders and back. I stand taller now; my posture is better thanks to working those posture muscles so much.
I have been eating terribly unhealthily for over a month now, so I can only imagine what a change I can make when I start eating better. I believe that my hard work will pay off, and just as I look forward to the Bar Method each day, I look forward to the body, the energy, and the happiness now within my reach.
Thank you all for being there! I can't wait to get back to class.
Theresa's daughter's story:
Since moving to the Seattle area nearly 5 years ago from Southern Maryland, my mom has had her ups and downs. It was a big move, a huge change, and we’ve all had our share of loneliness, regrets of the move, and ways cope with the new life out here. Making matters worse, I moved out almost three years ago to go to college, her youngest son will be off to school this fall, and her stepson suffering from progressive relapsing Multiple Sclerosis moved in a couple years ago.
The Bar Method has made my mom excited about something again. After her first session she called me up raving about it, telling me how much I’d love it, and how much she wished I could come do it with her. This program is getting her out and doing things every day. She gets out of bed early to workout then takes the dogs to the dog park, consistently. This is something she enjoys, and while she may feel sore and absolutely exhausted some days, she has persevered.
I can’t express how proud of her I am for that. The Bar Method has been such a great way for her to really take control of her life, become more independent, and do something for herself. It has been a terrific activity to do with her friends and develop those relationships further, as well as meet new people. I am just so happy to see her commitment, her new attitude, and her energy.
We went for a long trek around the Seattle Arboretum, Foster Island, Marsh Island, and Montlake the other day, and I was so impressed by her stamina. I am excited to be able to do a lot more hiking and outdoor activities this summer with her, something that she has longed to do since moving out to this beautiful state, but has struggled physically to accomplish.
